Bigger and Better Than Ever

The Lakefront Film Festival Releases Its Online Lineup

(WASHINGTON, DC – July 5, 2022) – The Lakefront Film Festival returns this year with its largest and most diverse hybrid lineup ever.  After moving its base of operations from Columbia, MD to Washington, DC, the festival has more than doubled the number of films being shown. This year’s hybrid festival will feature a mixture of online and live events.

Shining a spotlight on its streaming lineup, Lakefront has curated 50 films including narrative features, documentaries, and shorts for online viewing.  The impressive diversity of the collection ranges from drama to comedy to thriller, with a record number of 20 films directed by women.

Lakefront also flexes its international muscles garnering 12 films from 8 countries on 3 continents.  There are 2 films from Africa, 2 from Asia, and 8 more films from Europe.  The United Kingdom posts 4 films while Germany comes in second place with 2.

New York Times bestselling author, CNN host, and Emmy Award winner Van Jones heads a strong field of documentary entries, as he focuses on a nationwide story from a hometown angle; The First Step speaks out in support of criminal justice reform and challenges the response to the addiction crisis. The festival also boasts its first returning director as Kerry King brings Behind the Curtain: Local 22, a documentary about the theater workers union in Washington, DC to the festival. These stories and more are cataloged under the “DC Stories” section of the festival. There are twelve slates filled with the highest quality documentaries, comedies, drama, women filmmakers, LGBT+, and many more.

The entire slate for the festival can be found at: www.lakefrontfilmfest.com

Tickets and passes for the Lakefront Film Festival go on sale on Monday, July 11, 2022.  Tickets for the online films are $12 each.  A festival pass, which allows access to all the online films, is only $75.
